One of my favorite catch-phrases is “Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you”. That came to mind this week with Trump’s suggestion that the U.S. Military could be used domestically and even that they might use domestic sites (U.S. major cities) to train. Apart from the “minor” consideration that such an idea is illegal and against the U.S. Constitution, it opens a pandora’s box reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930’s – as if that box was not already open as a result of Trump’s other actions to date. If you combine his announcements at the military conference in Virginia this week with his actions of sending the U.S. Military into Washington D.C. and his announced plans to send them into Los Angeles, Memphis, Portland and Chicago, my paranoia turns into concrete fact that all these actions are part of his plan to become an absolute dictator. He is definitely out to get you and me despite the naïve American hope that such a thing could never happen in the United States, and that it only occurs in third-world banana republics. On that topic, I have news for you, Trump is well on the way to turning the United States into a banana republic, and will succeed if he is not stopped quickly.
Let me examine my paranoia a little closer. Apart from being a megalomaniac, who delights in military parades and military paraphernalia (see the picture above and note the insignia on his uniform), it seems to me that taking over the major cities is a preparatory move for the backlash he must know will come at some point. He may be intellectually challenged on many topics, but self-preservation is not one of them. When the public finally wakes up to what their lives, their freedoms, their healthcare bills and their grocery bills, among many other realities, will actually look like going forward, there will almost certainly be a loud and noisy reaction. If I was a wannabee-dictator, I would be preparing for such an inevitable outcome by creating a police state in the obvious centers where such reactions would start. Since it is unlikely that major reactions will occur in the rural areas, I would be concentrating my preparations on the major cities. Add the fact that the one entity in the U.S. Government that a wannabee-dictator/president would assume he has complete control over is the U.S. Military, since he is their Commander-in-chief, and it is an obvious step to set up units of the army in all major cities as the predominant “law-enforcers” – He would, of course, assume here that the word “law” refers only to his wishes and nothing else. That means Trump will not stop with Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Memphis, Portland and Chicago, he will certainly go on to include Atlanta, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Boston, Miami, etc, etc.
I should perhaps add here that I really believe – hope – that the U.S. Military leadership will honor their sworn commitment to the Constitution and exhibit some integrity by saying “NO” to Trump’s dictatorial demands. HOPE!!!!!!
I will further suggest that once Trump has all those assets in place, he will go for broke and announce that American elections cost far too much money, and the country can’t afford them, so he will just disband them at the Federal level…..in other words, dictator-for-life. If he can get away with that, he will have achieved one of his three fundamental, and only, goals; namely, staying out of jail for the rest of his life.
It is all too predictable and, as far as I can see, we are already well along this destructive path. In fact, I defy anyone who looks at Trump’s actions to date, to counter my arguments as to what his program is, and what his end-game goal is. Yes, I can be wrong, and hopefully I am, but hope is a very naïve emotion where politics and the country’s welfare are concerned.
Do we really want to sit and wring our hands, hoping it won’t happen, when every piece of evidence before us confirms the exact opposite, on a daily basis. As I said at the beginning, “Just because I’m/we’re paranoid, doesn’t mean that they/he aren’t/isn’t out to get me/us”.
