There have been rumblings in the Democratic Party recently about impeaching Donald Trump, but no action so far, although something is due to happen next week. Even Trump himself warned a Republican gathering that they better get the vote out for the mid-term election or he would be impeached – a rare admission in his normal delusional bravado. So why hasn’t the Democratic Party started the procedures that would lead to articles of impeachment?
I would also ask why they haven’t initiated such articles on a weekly/monthly basis – at the very least that would divert the attention of his administration away from more of his dictatorial actions. The more their attention is diverted, the less damage they can do – guerrilla tactics certainly, and we all know they work very effectively! (In case you’ve forgotten, that’s how the newly created United States won the War of Independence!!).
If we think of this process as guerrilla warfare, then the fact that any attempt to impeach the administration at this point would almost certainly be stopped by the Republican majority – barring some miracle of defection – doesn’t really matter. Again, guerrilla warfare always works well against an “in situ” entity, and the Trump’s Republican is nothing if not that!
I would further ask/suggest that the Democratic Party initiate articles of impeachment for the entire Trump administration, including all his officials?
I can already hear you saying that articles of impeachment are designed to be about a person, not a group. I would then ask you, where does it say that they cannot be used against a group? And, even in the unlikely case that it does say that somewhere, why would that stop anyone? Trump has set the example of ignoring any traditional rule he doesn’t like, so why not use his own precedent against him.
Impeaching the Trump administration has several major advantages: First, it eliminates the possibility that impeachment of Trump alone would result in “President Vance” – a pretty horrendous thought, even for most Republicans; second, it could, almost certainly, result in a call for an early presidential election from which anyone in the current Trump administration would automatically be banned because they had been collectively impeached – a new precedent once again, but why not?; third, it would stop the Trump rampage of destruction of American institutions and values much quicker than waiting three more years – and this assumes he would actually leave at the end of his current term; and, finally, it would prevent him from completing his vision of our world divided in three – Trump’s dictatorship, Putin’s dictatorship and Xi’s dictatorship.
Impeachment of the whole Trump administration has a lot of positive advantages in our domestic war against a Trump dictatorship, as well as untold advantages for the rest of the world, and our planet’s future.
The United States has three-quarters of the world’s lawyers. There must be a few non-trumpers with backbone in that lot. Surely someone in that category can come up with a strategy/program for implementing impeachment of the whole administration – it could even be a competition among law school students – they have less mental, and self-serving, restrictions than practicing lawyers, and more time to devote to such a challenge. Such an idea might also wake the universities up from their mostly subservient reaction to Trump’s abuse of their institutions.
The opportunities in this idea are almost boundless, and almost all positive.
It will be interesting to see the reactions of my readers to this idea, and I would be delighted to entertain, and publish, any thoughts and ideas they might come up with. This is a problem that involves everyone, no matter where they live, and that combined power of thought and analysis is almost certainly the most powerful force for change that can possibly be mustered. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
