I am getting increasingly annoyed and frustrated by the U.S. media’s avoidance of mentioning Trump’s greed as the obvious, and sole, motivation for his actions. This was exemplified by his recent stance on Venezuela, and his threats towards Greenland, today, Colombia, probably tomorrow, the world. Let’s be clear here, those threats have nothing to do with national security, drug interdiction or any of the other smoke screens he puffs out almost on an hourly basis. They have solely to do with his avarice, and nothing else.
He wants to lubricate the channels of bribery into his coffers from the U.S. oil industry – the invasion of Venezuela and the threat to Colombia; and the potential (probably already agreed) to create similar lubricated channels of bribery from U.S. companies that can plunder Greenland’s abundant natural resources. This opinion, mine, was reinforced today, Friday, when he announced that he, alone, would decide which U.S. oil companies would be allowed into Venezuela – presumably once he maximizes the level of bribes to him to do so.
Some journalists are alluding to this single underlying trait in all of Trump’s actions, but why haven’t the Democrats used this golden opportunity to destroy whatever credibility he might have with his own supporters – he already has none with anyone else. Yes, they might be afraid of lawsuits but, the way things are going, they will soon be the subject of lawsuits anyway, just by writing anything about Trump that he doesn’t approve first – Hegseth is already doing that in the Department of Defense, so why wouldn’t the White House follow suit.
Are the media going to wait until Trump decides to shut them down altogether, and then just cry copious tears as they disappear into oblivion? One would hope they might exercise some integrity before that happens. I hate to remind them but “freedom of the press” does come with some responsibilities!!
Ah! I hear some of you say. We don’t have proof that that is what Trump is actually doing. If you mean concrete evidence of fund transfers, you are probably correct. However, we all know that’s what he is doing. It fits his history and character perfectly. In any case, isn’t freedom of expression supposed to allow us to destroy reputations by inuendo without reprisal. Trump does it to everyone who disagrees with him, and this situation certainly calls for reciprocation.
Trump has spent years and huge amounts of legal fees learning how to hide his transgressions, financial and otherwise. So, trying to find concrete evidence would probably take a long time, and we don’t have a long time. We need the insinuation of his corruption to be all over the media …. NOW. It’s about time the media earned its keep!
Further, I have to wonder what will happen if he gets away with taking over Venezuela, Greenland and, possibly, Colombia?
It gives a clear green light to Putin to invade Europe, not just Ukraine. It gives Xi a green light to take over Taiwan plus the countries that border the South China Sea, and maybe even a try for Australia. Fantasy, on my part? I don’t think so. If the door is open, someone will always walk through it, and Trump’s actions are certainly opening such a door.
Also, why would Trump himself stop there, If he gets away with the annexation of Venezuela, then “King of the Americas” probably sounds good to him. The whole of the Americas to rape and pillage. I can see him smiling at the very thought.
In any confrontational situation, it is always wise to hope for the best and plan for the worst. That’s why I don’t think I’m crazy to present this blog. We have ample evidence of Trump’s intentions even though, at present, the media and most of the rest of us, Democrats and Republicans, seem reluctant to accept that evidence, and do something about it …. quickly.
