Grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory seems to be the only initiative that the U.S. Democratic Party structure is publicly projecting at the moment, and that borders on criminal neglect. They are being handed the midterm elections “on-a-plate” by Trump’s antics and the Republican Party’s compliance with those antics, yet they seem hell-bent on squandering that advantage. They are supporting Democratic candidates in primaries whose major qualifications seem to be “following the central Party line” rather than reflecting the will of the people. Endless polls show clearly that the general electorate dislikes the Democratic Party and its “publicly-apparent” opaque, almost non-existent, offering of a path towards the country’s future. As I said above, it’s almost a criminal neglect of their responsibility to offer the American electorate a clear, concise, understandable and, dare I say it, visionary, alternative to the disaster that presently occupies the White House. “Missing an opportunity” hardly touches the description they deserve.

People want their lives, and the future lives of their children, protected, supported, and cultivated by their government. To reiterate, endless polls, and the successes of recent elections of Democratic candidates whose campaign platforms emphasize those concerns, sends a clear message of what the American electorate desperately wants; namely, a government that represents peoples’ concerns. Yet, the Democratic Party is AWOL, tied up with their own internal machinations, whatever those might be. I can’t say it enough, it appears to be pure criminal neglect. In that sense, they are no better than the Republican Party, whose message is “devotion to the rich”. In fact, worse, because at least it is clear what the Republican Party stands for; namely, support for an unhinged President, and lining their own pockets as fast as possible.

If I want to be fair, which I don’t feel like being because I hear and see nothing to support this idea, I might be tempted to say this Democratic approach of apparent “AWOLnish” is a fiendishly-clever strategy that has been developed to win all future elections!! Even if that was true, however, why the hell are they not even hinting at it, let alone telling their supporters the plan – the mid-terms are in six months, for god sakes!

Despite all their efforts to compromise their potential victory in winning the U.S. House of Representatives and, more than likely, the Senate as well, there seems to be a pretty good chance the Democrats will win anyway. The electorate will vote for them just because it has no other way of voting against Trump’s insanity, dictatorship and destruction of the country, let alone his demolishing of the world order that has kept us relatively safe since World War II. The question therefore becomes, what the hell will the Democrats do with that power when they suddenly acquire it after the November mid-term elections. They certainly seem to have no idea, in any sort of constructive way, let alone a vision for a post-Trump America.

I have written two blogs recently on some ideas they might consider and, if I can come up with such ideas, those in the Democratic structure must surely be able to do better. Why the hell are they not doing so and, perhaps more importantly, why aren’t they “screaming those ideas from the rooftops”. AND, where are the more liberal media in all this. It’s about time they earned their right to freedom of the press by screaming as well.

As an example of this retinence, earlier this week, the Republican Tennessee legislature passed an initiative to redistrict parts of Memphis so that the Black vote, in a majority-Black city, will be eliminated in future congressional elections, including the coming mid-terms. Other states are quickly following suit, after the disastrous Supreme Court decision last week effectively allowing such initiatives. Those actions to disenfranchise Black and Brown peoples should have brought down a firestorm of protest against trying to put us on a path back to slavery in America, at least in the southern states.

What have the Democratic Party and the Media done in response to this denigration of years of the civil rights movement – they have simply reported the results of the Tennessee legislature vote, and well as the several other states’ similar initiatives.

In terms of the media, that, to my mind, is gross negligence, professional incompetence, and totally irresponsible use of freedom of the press – unfortunately, I guess, freedom of the press protects their right to “not report” as well as “to report”. In terms of the Democratic Party, it appears to be yet another example of criminal neglect, myopic vision and, given their history of support for civil rights in general, moral vacillation and decline.
