I was thinking about the state-of-play relating to the upcoming Midterm elections in the U.S., and what the possible outcomes could be, given that it appears almost certain the Democrats will win the House of Representatives, despite all their efforts not to, and all Trump’s potential avenues for invalidating any results he doesn’t like.
I therefore decided to write a blog that lists some possible Trump scenarios, in chronological order, and some simple Democratic Party steps that might get them reasonably organized to present an acceptable case to the American electorate.
The basic assumptions I will start with are (1) Trump, or perhaps I should say Miller and Vought, will try anything and everything to invalidate any results, unless, of course, they win, which seems very unlikely, and (2) the Democratic Party seems totally lost with no cohesive plan or strategy for what they might do if they do win. I should add that some individual Democratic candidates for office seem to be thinking and planning well, but the Party is a total F…… disorganized disaster. They don’t have any right to win even though they will, which bodes badly for what they will, or won’t, do when they win.
Trump has already sown the seeds for declaring that the midterm election results are a fraud and should be discarded. He has already trained ICE as a private army to do whatever he demands to make sure he stays in total power. I would even suggest that he has already organized The Proud Boys to form an armed cordon around the White House to prevent any attempt to oust him if he is impeached.
However, in terms of chronological steps it seems to me the following might well apply: (1) Deploy ICE agents in all urban polling stations as a last-ditch intimidation tactic against democratic, and even republican voters – anyone who might not vote the way he wants; (2) Immediately declare, on the evening of November 3, that all counting of votes is suspended because of rampant fraud; (4) Immediately deploy ICE agents to all vote-counting centers on the morning of November 4 to stop the count, physically if necessary; (5) Declare the midterm elections invalid because of rampant fraud, without any suggestion of when they might be held again; and maybe, just maybe, take the final step of declaring himself president-for-life with elections to be held next year when he has had the chance to clear up all the fraud. If that results in civil unrest he has ICE already trained and in place to put down any uprising, backed up by his hit squad called The Proud Boys.
There is a lot of talk about him ordering Johnson to not certify the new slate of new members of Congress and the Senate, which is supposed to take place on January 3, 2027. It seems to me that that is a dangerous strategy, purely in terms of the interim timeframe of two months, because the country could organize and react to his declaration of dictatorship. I would think that Miller and Vought would advise him not to wait.
I WOULD HOPE SOME GROUP OF INDEPENDENTS/SENSIBLE DEMOCRATS ARE CONTINGENCY-PLANNING FOR EACH ONE OF THESE POTENTIAL STEPS. IF THERE AREN’T, WE MAY WELL BE TOTALLY F….ED. AND THE ELECTION IS ONLY JUST OVER TWO WEEKS AWAY!
What should the Democratic Party be doing, in the meantime, to offer the American people a positive, simple, understandable, and acceptable, way out of this mess. This assumes they have any control over such a process if Trump/Miller/Vought aren’t stopped or, at least, sidelined in their complete takeover plans. I have a few suggestions, which I wrote up as a ten-page prospectus, or handbook, for the new Democratic Congress or, perhaps even, for my suggestion in last week’s blogs of a new Conservative Democratic Party.
